We are living in the middle of massive changes in social, ecological, political, economical and technological aspects, where each part impacts the other.
Smart cities, ecosystems, open data, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented realities and much more were mentioned on MindTrek conference´s presentations. After these two days I got the impression that there is an invisible force drawing people into value creation in many different ways. And there is an increasing need for openness and trust. In order to create new complex more advanced new technologies, diversity is needed. But when there is diversity, there will be challenges in building trust. Trust is a key to openness, which in practise means cloudification and open source.
Value creation in changing world
Value creation happens, when people openly share knowledge, learn and develop something valuable for the community. Openness is the key. Some approach the value creation from the perspective of coding, platform development, offering consulting, organizing events or creating games.
Massive game changers are here and now
We have great challenges such as climate change, growing wealth divide and rising cost of formal education. Also rapid technological advancement causes risks and inequality between people. There has been improvements, but in current working life there are huge structural problems related to poverty, sexism and racism in many industries.
Tru Luv Media Brie Code´s storylike presentation ”The End Game” was about game industry and how the world of coding and games are masculine, violent, boring and not relevant to women. It opened up the field from the historical perspective and brought the current situation in to daylight. And it resonated in me in so many levels.
I could totally relate to her experience about how it´s like to work in a masculine field and industries. It was also familiar what women want from games and how games can be tools for self development. Brie Code believes that eventually games can even change and save the world.
Dreaming about beautiful worlds
Computer games should be about caring, imagining something new and bigger for everyone. Through games humans could finally learn that our differences make us stronger, diversity is richness and that we are more effective together. In Brie Code´s utopia work has become a way to express ourselves and the line of work and play has blurred. Everyone has time and interest to reflect and to discover and learn and to join their dream projects. It is the only way for human kind to survive.
Care, love and leadership are needed
Let´s say in a future the new world is about building dream teams within ecosystems. Such teams then join larger teams in organizational and city levels as parts of the global ecosystem. Let´s also say teams at least need diversity, sufficient ICT tools, common goals and leadership in order for them to succeed. Who defines the goals? Who gives feedback and encourages to go to right directions? Who defines the tools? Who aligns the global resources and teams´objectives? Who owns the data that is produced and who defines how it can be further used? It is clear that few companies have almost all the data about people, cities and companies.
Clearly some ethical discussions and governance are needed in all levels.
What the world now needs, is caring, educated, loving and strong leaders – who are interested and understand new technologies.
